How to Work with Virtual Volunteers

Delivered to Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada (November 2017)

Description: The demand for flexible and remote work options has now expanded to volunteering. While virtual volunteering presents new opportunities for engaging skilled talent (regardless of location), non-profits need to set rules in place to ensure remote volunteering is successful and beneficial to their organizations.

The session outlined how to select volunteers who are suited to virtual volunteering. Participants learned how to successfully manage projects with remote volunteers and were provided with examples of communications tools that best support remote team projects.

Comments from participants:

“I liked the beginning kind of participation ice breaker game. I liked the overall invitation to participate which is fairly rare in talks.”

“Helpful overview of virtual volunteering. Good suggestions and resources.”

“I appreciated the questions at the end and the different ways that people use virtual volunteers. It provided me with ideas that I can use in my own organization.”

Professional Association of Volunteer Leaders – Ontario (May 2018)
PAVRO Annual Conference Workshop Presenter

Description: Most not for profits often rely on volunteer input to deliver their communications. The advent of digital media now means that there are more ways to communicate, but also, more opportunities for inaccurate messages to be sent out. To ensure your organization is represented effectively, it is crucial that both staff and volunteers are trained on how to deliver consistent, effective messages.

Comments from participants:
